RRAT — Research Readiness & Aptitude Test

A short readiness check, not an entrance exam

The RRAT is one assessment, taken once, that puts every candidate on the same scale. It shows professors what you're good at beyond your grades, and there is no pass or fail.

  1. Why it exists

Professors receive many applications. The RRAT puts every candidate on the same scale, so you can show your ability wherever you study.

  2. What it looks at

Reasoning, reading and understanding research, problem-solving and research ethics. It looks at how you think, not what you've memorised.

  3. How it works

One online assessment, taken once, at a time that suits you. Practice material is provided before you start, so you know what to expect.

  4. What happens to your score

Your result is shown as a score, a band and a percentile on your Research Passport, where professors see it when they review your application. We also use it to recommend opportunities that match your level.
